A Fantastic Family Tent That Survived Houston Weather

We’re a family of four, not exactly hardcore campers, but we loved it. We fit four inflatable camping mattresses inside with room to spare — no one had to sleep diagonally or sacrifice a foot to the tent wall.

The quality really surprised us. We’ve used it through Houston’s greatest hits: wind, rain, and even one of those “is this a flood or just Tuesday?” storms. The tent held up beautifully every time. No leaks, no drama, just a cozy dry space while the weather did its thing outside.

Setup is refreshingly simple, even for people who don’t camp often. We haven’t tested it in truly cold conditions (Houston doesn’t really do “cold”), so if you’re planning a winter expedition somewhere frosty, take that into account. But for our climate — rain, humidity, and the occasional gusty night — it’s been rock solid.

So far, we’re impressed. If it keeps holding up like this, it’ll be one of our best camping purchases yet

Coleman always make well designed tents and this one continues with high quality. It’s HUGE and worked well with a big dog. What may not be shown in the photos are that the patio “walls” are not just screens but they also can be closed/covered completely.

Solid tent. Plenty of room for a queen size air mattress, a one person cot, and all of our stuff. The front waterproof room is a great addition. You can either store all of your items in there, or one other person could sleep there. Simple set up, one person could do, but two people is preferred. The main complaint is plastic to secure the poles to is very rigid and one broke the first time I set up the tent.

I LOVEEEEEE this tent. I camp a lot and I’m obsessed with this tent. The two rooms make such a difference and I love how you can open the front completely or close it for bad weather. The only cons I’ve experienced is that water can get into the front room if you’re not meticulous with the zippers when it rains and the rain fly is not the easiest to take on/off. For example, it was super hot one night so we didn’t have the fly on, but it started raining at 1am and we struggled to get the fly on the right way for a couple of minutes. Practice has made it easier, but still not the most simple setup I’ve came across for large tents.

Don't buy if you camp in the rain!

Don't buy this tent if you'll be camping in the rain. I'd read another review that said the same thing, but I assumed they just didn't know how to set up a tent. This is my 3rd Coleman tent over the last 25 years – the first two were fabulous and eventually gave out since we used them so much. This one leaked in multiple places the first time we used it – from a couple of places on the roof (wet sleeping bags are no fun!), from the side, and in the front door panels where water collected in the bottom door seam. Tent has been returned for a refund (they offered a replacement, but who wants a tent that will leak??).

I wish I could love this. The room inside is great, it met all my needs, however it’s not well made from my perspective.
The first set up the curved metal ferrule on the front porch screen pole bent to nearly 90 degrees, it does not support the porch. The third time (last night) setting it up the shock cord on one of the tent poles came undone. I am an experienced camper so I do not feel this is user error, rather something with the tent.
I’m an avid camper/backpacker and know how to set up and take down.
When I reached out to Coleman they sent me a pole replacement link to check my size and for me to buy it. Really disappointing. It’s 1 month old. I missed my return window by 3 days.

Not very sturdy in the wind

It’s not very sturdy and the instructions aren’t much help putting it up. There was a 10-14mph wind blowing and when there was a gust the entire tent folded down on itself a foot or so! I put it down to a lack of guide ropes on the fly sheet. There just aren’t enough of them to keep it steady. The tents either side of us, a Vango and something else both had many more guide ropes and weren’t moving at all, as ours was bending and buckling. Once the wind died down it was absolutely fine. Putting the fly sheet on was a nightmare, particularly with the wind. But it wasn’t clear which way round it was supposed to be and it was trial and error till we finally got it on properly. I say properly, it was all clipped to the poles but it wasn’t quite right. One corner was sagging and we couldn’t figure out why. TBF it was the first time we’ve put it up and the wind wasn’t helping, but the “10 minute” erection time turned into about 45 minutes. It’s a good layout though, tall enough to stand in easily, plenty of space for a 4 foot wide mattress and all our kit and the front porch bit is extremely useful. It was lovely sitting inside with a glass of wine, watching the sunset when midge time arrived!
